HOUSTON – The HBU softball team is hosting the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders for a Southland Conference series on Friday and Saturday at Husky Field.
Friday's double header has been moved up to 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. while Saturday's game is scheduled for a noon first pitch. All three games of the series can be seen live on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
The Huskies (12-20, 2-6 SLC) are coming off of a midweek loss to the Sam Houston Bearkats on Wednesday.
Caitlyn Brockway accounted for the only Husky run in the contest, sending a moonshot homer to center field in the bottom of the first inning, her second in four games and seventh on the season.
The Huskies dropped their opening two Southland conference series dropping series to both Northwestern and McNeese before picking up a series win against the UIW Cardinals.
The Islanders (14-22, 2-4 SLC) were swept in their opening Southland series against the Cowgirls of McNeese before taking 2-of-3 from Northwestern.
Players to watch for the Islanders include Pal Egan who is hitting .419 on the season to lead the Islanders, including team highs in hits with 44, doubles with 15, and homers with five, and RBIs with 20. Grace Gilbert has thrown 75.2 innings allowing 85 hits, 44 walks, and has struck out 44. She has a 4.63 ERA.
HBU has won the last two series against TAMCC including four of the last six games. Since they first faced each other in 2011, the Islanders own the overall series against the Huskies 14-12.
The Huskies are on the road next weekend for a Southland Conference series beginning next Friday against Southeastern.
