HOUSTON – The HBU women's basketball team announced the signing of forward Jo Oly, head coach
Donna Finnie announced Wednesday morning.
A native of Ettelbruck, Luxembourg, Oly joins
Julija Vujakovic as another member of the Husky roster hailing from Luxembourg. She attends Sportlycee in Luxembourg where she will graduate from in May.
During the offseason, she plays for BBC Grengewald Hueschtert and head coach Hermann Paar. During her time in that program she had the opportunity to play in the EuroCup Qualifiers in 2020 and 2021. Like Vujakovic, she has appeared for her national team and was able to play in the European Championship.
Oly was born to parents Rene Oly and Jackie Oly-Krier. She has three siblings, brothers Phillippe (26) and Charel (25) and sister France (28).
She chose HBU because of the wide range of academic possibilities along with the opportunity to play for a good basketball program, coach Finnie, and their deep and diverse roster. She plans on majoring in Psychology when she gets to campus.
"I was so happy when Jo told us she wanted to join the Husky family. Jo is a very mature versatile player who will fit really well into our defensive system and I can see where she will be able to score for us as she is very good inside and out," Finnie said. "Her passing ability in transition is really good and she has a great motor, similar to that of
Julija Vujakovic. Jo plays for a very good friend of mine who is an excellent coach and he has prepared her well for the college game. Hermann understands the college game and has done a great job at preparing Jo for the rigors of NCAA basketball. We are really excited to add Jo and her family to HBU."
Oly will join a Husky roster loaded with international talent looking to defend their regular season Southland title next season.
