Box Score 2 HOUSTON – The HBU softball team split their first two games of the HBU Tournament against Brown and Prairie View A&M Friday afternoon and evening at Husky Field.
The first game the Huskies (7-7) played in was against the Brown Bears which saw them drop the contest 3-2. A late inning push from the Huskies was not enough as the Bears walk away winners.
Katy Janes threw a complete game for the Huskies and gave up all three runs early in the contest. Her record dropped to 3-2 on the season.
Lyndie Swanson delivered another complete game shutout for the Huskies against the Panthers (0-14). This is her second complete game shutout in as many appearances.
The Huskies got the scoring started in the first inning of this one as
Autumn Sydlik drove a ball off the wall in left center to bring home
Shelby Echols who led off the inning with a single. This would prove to be the only run the Huskies would need, but in the fourth inning,
Breana Herrera singled to center field to bring
Caitlyn Brockway in to score.
Swanson lowered her ERA to 2.90 on the season and improved her record to 4-1. Over her seven innings of work in this one, she allowed six hits and no walks while striking out eight, including two in the final frame.
The Huskies continue play in the HBU Tournament tomorrow when they host Brown at 11 a.m. before getting to take a game off before hosting Prairie View at 4:00 p.m. at Husky Field.
