HOUSTON – HBU softball welcomes Brown and Prairie View A&M to campus this weekend for a round-robin style set of games beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday. All games featuring HBU can be viewed live on the Husky Sports Network through HBUHuskies.com. The weekend's full schedule can be seen above.
The Huskies (6-6) are coming off of a mid-week loss to UTSA on Tuesday, but previously won all three games they played in the Houston tournament. The past weekend saw many great Husky performances, but none better than
Shelby Echols who moved into fourth in the nation in hitting, going 9-13 with a home run and eight runs batted in.
Lyndie Swanson closed out the weekend in style, throwing a two hit complete game shutout against the UH Cougars late Sunday night, her second complete game shutout of the season.
For the season, Echols leads HBU in many categories: hitting at .538, hits with 21, doubles with three, RBI's with nine, a .692 slugging percentage, and a .581 on-base percentage.
Caitlyn Brockway leads the Huskies in home runs with two while three others are tied at one, including
Jasie Roberts who hit a walk off three run shot against Lamar last weekend.
Swanson is the ace on staff for the Huskies, recording a 3.54 earned run average over 31.2 innings over six appearances and four starts. She has recorded 22 total strikeouts.
Sarah Venker does a little bit of everything for the Huskies. Along with her work at the plate and in the outfield, she has posted a 3.68 earned run average across 19 innings and has tallied 20 strikeouts.
Brown (0-5) is coming off of the FIU softball tournament which saw them drop all five games they played in. Kat Clum leads Brown offensively, hitting .385 followed by Elayna Tsiouplis at .333. Jayden Ditiumus has recorded the most innings in the circle for Brown at 10.1 Over those innings she has posted a 3.28 earned run average while striking out two and walking six.
Prairie View A&M (0-13) is coming off of a mid-week double header against Baylor that saw them drop both games. Jaylyn Davis and Biviana Figueroa lead the Panthers in hitting at .333. Davis leads the club in homers with one.
This will be the first time that HBU and Brown have taken the field together. The Huskies own the overall series with PVAM, 11-2-1. The tie came in a rainout back in the 2009 season. The last meeting between the schools saw PVAM snap an HBU nine game winning streak against them. The Huskies will look to get back to their winning ways tomorrow.
Following this weekend's games, the Huskies will travel to Lipscomb University to take part in their presesaon tournament
