SUGAR LAND, Texas – With rain in the forecast this weekend, HBU will now host Hofstra in a three-game series Friday and Sunday at Constellation Field, home of the Houston Astros AAA affiliate Sugar Land Space Cowboys.
The series will begin with a doubleheader Friday at noon, beginning with a seven-inning game, followed by a nine-inning contest. The series will conclude with a single game Sunday at 12:30 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on the Husky Sports Network with
Russ Reneau.
Senior infielder/outfielder
Jake Miller has hit safely in the first five games of the season, leading the Southland Conference with a .526 batting average, a home run, three RBIs and three runs. Junior centerfielder
Austin Roccaforte has reached safely in all five games and is hitting .357 with a double, an RBI and three runs, while junior first baseman/outfielder
Matt Crossley is hitting .267 with an RBI and a pair of runs for the Huskies (0-5).
HBU is expected to send righthanders
Ethan Abbott,
Daxton Tinker and
Jared Burch to the mound.
Hofstra will be seeing its first action of the season this weekend. They are led by preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association selection Will Kennedy, a junior leftfielder, who hit .284 with two home runs and 15 RBIs last year. Junior second baseman Santino Rosso hit .278 with a pair of homers and 16 RBIs.
The Pride is likely to start righthanders Brad Camarda, Mark Faello and John Mikolaicyk.
This weekend marks the first-ever meeting between HBU and Hofstra.
The Huskies will return to action on the road at Texas A&M Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in College Station and will be on the road for the next four weekends.
