HOUSTON – Rutgers had an answer for each HBU rally as the Scarlet Knights swept the season-opening series with a 10-5 victory Sunday afternoon at Husky Field.
Senior first baseman
Jake Miller went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and scored a run, while junior centerfielder
Austin Roccaforte was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs for the Huskies (0-3). Junior third baseman
Reed Chumley also homered.
Senior righthander
Jared Burch (0-1) took the loss for HBU, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 4.1 innings.
Tony Santa Maria was 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBIs and scored twice for the Scarlet Knights (3-0). Richie Shiekofer, Danny DiGeorgio and Evan Sleight each had two hits, with Sleight scoring twice.
Justin Sinibaldi (1-0) picked up the win, allowing a run on one hit with two strikeouts in two innings. Starter Nathan Florence gave up a run on five hits with four strikeouts in three innings.
HBU returns to action when it hits the road to face Baylor Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Waco, before returning home to host Rice Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Husky Field.
