CHICAGO – HCU senior linebacker Brennan Young has been chosen as one of 15 finalists for the FedEx Ground Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award presented by Stats Perform. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
 
Young became the second player in HCU history with more than 400 career tackles, joining the late two-time All-American Garrett Dolan, who finished with 467 to ranks seventh all-time in FCS history. Young  ranked fourth in the league in tackles, recording double-digit tackles five times, and tied for fifth in tackles for loss. The Conroe, Texas, native finished with 94 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, a sack and six quarterback hurries.
 
In addition to his on-the-field success, Young was a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, is a two-time member of the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team, earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors this week and is now eligible for Academic All-America status.
 
One representative from each of the 15 Football Championship Subdivision conferences is nominated for the award, with Young representing the Southland Conference. The Doris Robinson Award, now in its eighth year, is named after the late school teacher and wife of legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson and is presented to an FCS student-athlete who excels not only on the playing field and in the classroom , but in the community and beyond.
