WBB: Wilson and Vujakovic Earn Spots on Southland Preseason All-Conference Teams

HCU voted 2nd in the conference in preseason poll

FRISCO, TX – The Southland Conference released the preseason all-conference teams, which features two Huskies, along with the preseason poll which has HCU ranked second Tuesday morning. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
 
All-Conference Teams
 
Senior guard Kennedy Wilson was voted to the 2022-23 Southland first-team all-conference after her stellar play in the 2021-22 season.
 
Wilson led the Huskies with 57 assists while scoring 8.2 points per game on a team-high 40.4 percent shooting from three point range. She also led the team in free-throw percentage at 86.7 percent. She added 58 rebounds and 28 steals. She scored a career-high 20 points in 40 minutes against New Orleans when she was 5-11 from the field and 8-8 from the foul line. SHe was named to the Southland all-academic second-team last season. 
 
Graduate forward Julija Vujakovic was named the Southland second-team all-conference after leading the Huskies nationally ranked defense last season.
 
Vujakovic started all 27 games she appeared in for the Huskies. She was third on the team in scoring, averaging 9.1 points per game and had a team high 45 steals while adding 15 blocks on the defensive end. She shot 36 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the three-point line. She scored a season high 19 points against McNeese, shooting 5-10 from distance and 6-11 overall. In addition to her on court achievements, Vujakovic was named to the Southland all-academic first-team last season.

Preseason Poll
 
Coming off of their first regular season championship in program history in 2021-22, the HCU Huskies were voted second best in the conference by opposing SID's and head coaches to begin the 2022-23 season. HCU received five first place votes, second only to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi who received 11. The full poll results can be found below:
