Sutton Promoted to Director of Media Relations

Veteran SID entering his seventh year at HBU

HOUSTON – Jeff Sutton has been named Director of Media Relations at HBU, after serving the past four years as Assistant Director, Director of Athletics Steve Moniaci and Assistant AD for Media Relations & Broadcasting Russ Reneau announced Monday.
 
"Jeff has played an integral role in the promotion of our athletic programs and advancing HBU's exposure on not only local stages, but also at the national level," Reneau said. "He has certainly earned this title, so we would like to celebrate his contributions and acknowledge the many ways he helps make this department better."
 
Sutton is in his fifth year of his second stint at HBU and his seventh overall. He is the primary contact for men's basketball, women's soccer, men's and women's track and field and is the secondary contact for football.
 
Prior to re-joining the HBU staff, Sutton worked six-plus years on the University of Houston campus in a variety of roles, including stints in the Division of Advancement and the UH Alumni Association. During his employment at UH, he continued to serve as a gameday statistician for HBU home basketball and football games.
 
From 2008-10, he was on the HBU staff as associate director of media relations for one year and one year as the director of athletic media relations. Prior to HBU, Sutton spent two years as the sports information director at his alma mater, Southwestern University, after one year as the sports information director at the University of Texas-Pan American.
 
Sutton is a Houston native, who earned his bachelor of arts degree from Southwestern in 2005. He currently resides in Houston with his wife, Stephanie, stepdaughter, Aven (14) and daughter, Lyanna (1). He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America and the United States Basketball Writers Association.
