WSOC: Lo Rivas Named Assistant Coach

The newest Husky coach has been a volunteer assistant since 2018

HOUSTON – Lo Rivas has been named assistant coach for the HBU women's soccer program, head coach Chris Dodd announced on Thursday afternoon.

"Lo has had a growing influence on this program over the last three years as a volunteer," said Dodd. "Her high-level playing experience and soccer knowledge add an attacking-minded perspective to our coaching staff. She has a great relationship with the players and represents the faith and values of the University. I look forward to the impact that she will have in this new position."

Rivas first came to HBU in 2017 as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes campus director responsible for planning, leading directing and funding all FCA activities on campus. She began her work with the women's soccer program less than a year later as a volunteer assistant coach. Over the last three years she has assisted in planning and execution of team practice sessions, individual and small group skill work and goalkeeper practice. Rivas has also assisted with off-field leadership training and organized the team's mission trip to Charlotte, N.C. earlier this year.

"I am honored to be named the assistant coach for HBU women's soccer," said Rivas. "I have loved my time as a volunteer assistant coach for the past three seasons and am excited to have the opportunity to continue to invest in this program, and these athletes, in a new role."

Rivas was a standout player across town at Rice, earning four all-Conference USA selections, and is the Owls' all-time record holder in goals, assists and game-winning goals. She also hold the program single-season records for goals, assists and consecutive games with a goal. Rivas twice earned CUSA Offensive Player of the Year honors.

After her graduation from Rice in 2015 she signed a professional contract with UMF Selfoss in Iceland. During her one season of professional soccer, Rivas led the team in goals and minutes played, garnering numerous Pepsi Team of the Week selections and one Player of the Week nod.
