HOUSTON – HCU is poised for a Southland Conference women's soccer matchup this Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. against Northwestern State at Sorrels Field with the Huskies looking to even their conference record.
The Huskies (5-5-1, 0-1-1 SLC) have already matched their win total from 2024, the program's first year under head coach
Nick Whiting. Following a conference-opening draw against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last week, HCU suffered a heartbreaking defeat on Thursday night at Lamar. The Huskies took a 1-0 lead just before halftime but saw the Cardinals score an equalizer in the 67
th minute and then a second goal in the final minute on a corner.
Sophomore
Madi Lambert scored her first career goal on Thursday and became the 10
th HCU player to score this season. In goal,
Emmy McKeon faced 12 shots and finished the night with seven saves to move up two spots on the career saves list at HCU with 112 in 22 career appearances.
Northwestern State (6-2-3, 1-0-1 SLC) opened the season with a 3-2 upset win at No. 19 Texas and has since played five common opponents with the Huskies. In games against SMU, Tarleton State, Grambling, Abilene Christian and Prairie View, the Lady Demons posted a record of 2-2-1 while the Huskies had a 3-2 record against the same opponents.
Junior midfielder Emily Senatore leads the Lady Demons and is tied for the SLC lead with eight goals with four of those counting as game-winners. Freshman Hosane Soukou has netted five goals. Goalkeeper Kennedy Rist has allowed just six goals in nine games for a 0.72 goals against average with a save percentage of .857.
The Huskies and Lady Demons are an even 7-7-2 all-time with HCU owning a 3-4 record in games played in Houston.
HCU will be back on the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 2, at home against the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros at 7:00 p.m.
