NACOGDOCHES, Texas – HBU softball hits the road for their final Southland Conference regular season three game series against SFA with a Friday afternoon doubleheader on May 7 and game three on Saturday at Noon at the SFA Softball Field in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Redshirt freshman utility player Jasie Roberts bats .360 for the season, .392 in conference play, totaling eight doubles, two triples, five home runs, 28 RBIs and 17 runs, while senior catcher Heidi Jaquez bats .370 with nine doubles, a homer, 12 RBIs while scoring 24 times for HBU (21-14, 14-10 SLC). Sophomore first baseman Caitlyn Brockway bats .330 with six double, seven homers and leads the team with 30 RBIs scoring 21 runs while sophomore third baseman Autumn Sydlik bats .315 with eight doubles, eight homers, 29 RBIs and 25 runs. Redshirt freshman Shelby Echols bats .336 with two doubles, a triple, two homers, six RBIs, and 24 runs scored.
Redshirt freshman Lyndie Swanson, senior Jessica Patak and sophomore Sarah Venker look too make starts on the weekend. Swanson (9-1) has thrown 79.2 innings allowing 19 runs with 55 strikeouts while Patak (7-9) has thrown 88 innings with a 2.78 ERA and 58 strikeouts. Venker (3-1) has thrown 36.1 innings with 23 strikeouts, with her first season complete game shutout against Lamar.
Shaylon Govan leads the Ladyjacks (32-9, 23-1 SLC) batting .420 with eight doubles, 15 home runs, 50 RBIs and 35 runs scored, while Gaby Garcia bats .406 with 12 doubles, eight homers, 38 RBIs, and has scored 30 times. SFA lost their only conference matchup against Central Arkansas after going on an 18 game winning streak.
Kassidy Wilbur (28-3) leads in the circle in the conference with a 0.84 ERA in 191.2 innings thrown allowing 23 earned runs and posting 232 strikeouts. Reagan Chisom, Raigan Mock and Govan look to also make appearance on the weekend with a little over 20 inning thrown by each.
HBU will head to Hammond, Louisiana next weekend as they begin the 2021 Southland Conference Tournament. The Huskies currently sit in the fifth spot of the standings. Day one of the tournament will begin on Tuesday, May 11.
