HAMMOND, La. - Sixth seed HBU will take on seventh seed Sam Houston in the game one matchup at the 2021 Southland Conference Tournament, the Huskies first appearance since 2014, on Tuesday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at the North Oak Park, home to Southeastern Louisiana.
HBU (15-12 SLC) had four All-Conference selection earlier Monday, with senior catcher
Heidi Jaquez named to the first team and sophomore first baseman
Caitlyn Brockway and redshirt freshmen pitcher
Lyndie Swanson and utility player
Jasie Roberts named to the third team. Jaquez bat .317 in conference play with 26 hits and 18 runs scored. She had four doubles, two home runs, and seven RBIs. Roberts led the team with a .357 batting average, ranked ninth in the conference with 30 hits, and scored nine times. She had four doubles, the only player on the team with a triple, three home runs, and ranked seventh in the conference with 19 RBIs. Brockway bat .303 in SLC play with the most at-bats with 89, 27 hits, and 13 runs scored. She had three doubles, was fourth in the conference with five homers and ranked fourth in the conference with 21 RBIs.

Shelby Echols bat .348 leading the team and ranks sixth in conference with 31 hits and has scored 17 times with two homers and four RBIs. Sophomore
Autumn Sydlik bat .274 with 23 hits, 17 runs, four hits, ranks second in the conference with seven homers, and ranks third in the conference with 22 RBIs.
Swanson led the pitching staff with a 9-2 record with a 1.31 ERA throwing 74.2 innings including five complete games and three shutouts with 19 appearances and seven starts. She gave up just 14 earned runs and 22 walks while striking out 46 including a career-high 10 strikeouts against A&M-Corpus Christi. Senior
Jessica Patak has thrown 87.2 innings with an 8-10 overall record with 22 appearances and 20 starts with eight complete games, three shutouts and a no hitter.
Sam Houston (14-13) had three named to All-Conference, with senior Megan McDonald named first team, freshman Hannah Scheaffer to second team, and junior Sheridan Fisher to third team. McDonald bat .293 with two doubles, a triple, 14 RBIs and scored 20 times. Scheaffer bat .266 with three doubles, five homers and 15 RBIs, while Fisher bat .281 with four doubles, two triples, a home run, and 17 RBIs.
In the teams last meeting Huskies took the series 2-1. HBU took game one 8-0 after Patak threw a no hitter and Brockway nailed a homer with four RBIs and took game two with a Swanson 2-0 shutout abd Roberts two RBI double. The Bearkats nabbed game three, 4-1, after an early 4-0 lead.
The winner of this game will move on to play McNeese at 4 p.m. Game one will be a single elimination and all game after will be double elimination.
