PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – HBU softball heads up the road for a mid-week non-conference matchup against Prairie View A&M. The teams will face off at Lady Panthers Softball Stadium on Tuesday, April 13 at 3 p.m. The Huskies hosted the Panthers earlier on in the season in a doubleheader where the Huskies took the sweep.
HBU (14-10,7-8 SLC) comes into the week after a 3-0 sweep of UIW last weekend. In the pre-season matchup against the Panthers, the Huskies scored 23 runs. Sophomore Caitlyn Brockway went 2-for-3 in game one with seven RBIs, scoring twice with her two home runs. Redshirt freshman went 2-for-3 with four RBIs with a double and a home run. Senior Heidi Jaquez went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored three times. Sophomore Autumn Sydlik went 2-for-3 in game two with four RBIs and a homerun. Redshirt freshman Lyndie Swanson had four RBIs and a homerun while senior Riley Bullen had two RBIs and a homerun.
Junior Jessica Patak (5-7) took the game one win in relief throwing two innings giving up just one run while striking out three. Swanson (5-0) started the game giving up one run on three hits and walking two while striking out three. Sophomore Sarah Venker (2-1) took the win in game two throwing three innings giving up just three hits and a walk while striking out three. Freshman Katy Janes (0-2) finished the remaining two innings giving up one run while striking out three.
Prairie View A&M (10-10,9-3 SWAC) comes into the week after a 2-1 win over SWAC opponent Texas Southern. Kimberly Hernandez leads the team batting .417 with five doubles, a triple and a home run with nine RBIs. Serena Antone went 1-for-2 in the last meeting bring in the Panthers only run of game one. Alyssa Garcia bats .333 with four doubles, a home run and leads the team with 13 RBIs.
Mya Hall (5-4) took the game one loss giving up seven runs on five hits and walking two while striking out four. She leads the pitching staff with 3.34 ERA throwing 56.2 innings with 59 strikeouts. Kara Fucci (0-1) took the loss in game two giving up three runs on four hits while striking out one. Chaynau Johnson threw 1.1 innings in game two giving up five runs on six hits walking one while striking out one.
The Huskies return to action as they continue SLC play hosting Central Arkansas for a three-game weekend series with a doubleheader on Friday, April 16.
