SB: Huskies Head North to Face Bearkats

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – HBU Softball heads north to play a three-game series with Sam Houston. Friday, April 2 will kick off with a 4 p.m. doubleheader and the series will wrap up with game three on Saturday, April 3. Sam Houston currently leads the series to HBU, sweeping the last three series meetings. 

HBU (9-9,2-7 SLC) last saw action in a sweep by Northwestern State on the road. Redshirt freshman short stop Shelby Echols went 5-for-10 on the weekend with her first homerun of the season, second of her career. She currently leads HBU with a .421 batting average. Redshirt freshman second baseman Jasie Roberts bats a .373 for the season with two home runs and 12 RBI. She went 4-for-9 against the Demons with a triple and scoring HBU's only runs in game three. Senior Heidi Jaquez bats a .360 with a home run and 9 RBI while Sophomore Autumn Sydlik bats .304 on the season with four home runs and 17 RBI and sophomore Caitlyn Brockway bats .308 with three home runs and 13 RBI. The Huskies average a .288 batting average for the season and .253 for the conference season and lead the SLC with a .477 slugging percentage.  

The HBU pitching staff has seen the most action from junior Jessica Patak (3-7) throwing 3.22 ERA in 45.2 innings with 30 strikeouts. Redshirt freshman Lyndie Swanson (2-0) has pitched 27 innings with a 2.07 ERA with 24 strikeouts. Sophomore Sarah Venker (2-1) throws 4.06 ERA in 20.2 innings with 15 strikeouts. 

Sam Houston (7-18,4-5 SLC) come into the game after a sweep from Central Arkansas and a non-conference loss to UT Arlington on Wednesday, March 31. The Bearkats currently bat .226 for the season and .228 for conference. Ellie Grill leads the team batting a .323 for the season with 11 RBI and a pair of doubles and a pair of triples. Kyndal Kutac follows behind batting .269 with 11 RBI with a home run and three doubles. Emily Telg leads the team with three homers while batting .206. 

The Bearkats are led by Mika Vento (3-3) with 3.76 ERA in 54 innings pitched with 37 strikeouts. Reagan Dunn (4-4) has pitched 43.2 innings with 6.25 ERA and 32 strikeouts.  

The Huskies will see action next for a non-conference midweek game against St. Thomas University with a single 6 p.m. game on Wednesday, April 7 at Husky Field.
