HOUSTON – The HBU women's soccer team is set to play its next five games on the home turf of Sorrels Field beginning this Friday with a Southland Conference matchup with Central Arkansas at 7:00 p.m. before stepping out of conference play to take on UTSA on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
The Huskies (0-5-1, 0-4-0 SLC) got a pair of goals from sophomore
Ryan Ford last weekend but ultimately dropped a pair of road matches by identical 3-1 final scores at McNeese and at Lamar. HBU attempted more shots in both losses and over the course of the season have put half of all shot attempts on goal.
Central Arkansas (11-3-1, 2-1-0 SLC) played 11 games in the fall and is led by sophomore Emma Hawkins who has accounted for eight goals and two assists. Abby Gibson, also a sophomore, leads the team in SLC play after scoring a brace in a 3-0 home win over Southeastern La. In goal, Reagan McCombs has totaled 10 saves and registered a pair of shutouts in the team's last two games.
UTSA (1-3-1, 0-1-0 CUSA), meanwhile, is in the midst of a four-game winless stretch with their most recent result a 3-2 home loss to Rice. The Roadrunners have been a hard-luck team this season, holding opponents to just 28 total shots through five games and allowing just five total goals. UTSA, however, has attempted 56 shots but scored just four times. Sophomore Abby Kassal leads the team with a pair of goals.
HBU will be back at it at Sorrels Field next weekend with a single game on Friday, Mar. 12, when the Huskies host Abilene Christian at 7:00 p.m.
