AUSTIN, Texas –
Kaitlin Smith stands in seventh in the heptathlon while
Garrett Gibson and
Jessica Rabius made strong showings in their respective races on day one of the 93
rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Thursday.
Kaitlin Smith opened the heptathlon with a wind-aided PR of 13.83 in the 100 meter hurdles for 1,003 points, placing fourth in the event. She followed that up with an outdoor PR height of 1.67m/5-5.75 in the high jump, adding 818 points to her total. In the shot put, after a pair of fouls on her first two attempts, she picked up 548 points with a throw of 10.29m/33-9.25 and then ran a PR time of 25.54 in the 200 meters for 838 points. She ended the day with 3,207 points in seventh place, fifth among collegians.
Junior
Garrett Gibson placed 11
th out of 42 runners in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 52.45. In the women's 1500, junior
Jessica Rabius posted a time of 4:33.82 to place fourth in her section in her first time running the 1500m in a college meet.
On Friday, Smith will close out the heptathlon with three events while five members of the men's squad will be competing in the 110 meter hurdles (
Scott Boon and
Denim Rogers), the pole vault (
Hudson Hall) and the long jump (
Isaiah Cash and
Christopher Welch).
