HOUSTON – HBU softball hosts Southeastern Louisiana for a three-game series to continue Southland Conference play at Husky Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. for the Friday, March 19 doubleheader and game three will be at NOON on Saturday.
HBU (8-4,1-2 SLC) opened SLC play to Abilene Christian falling 1-2 in the series and recently fell 6-0 to Texas A&M in a midweek matchup. The Huskies come in hitting .319 as team led by senior Heidi Jaquez batting .452. Redshirt freshman Shelby Echols follows batting .405 with 15 hits on the season. Caitlyn Brockway, Autumn Sydlik, and Riley Bullen wrap up the top of the leaders with two homeruns and 11 RBI each. Redshirt freshman Jasie Roberts also adds two homeruns on the season batting .317.
The HBU pitching staff has seen the most action from junior Jessica Patak (3-4) with 2.66 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched and tied for the lead with 18 strikeouts. Lyndie Swanson (1-0) has pitched 17.1 innings with a .40 ERA while tied for the lead with 18 strikeouts. Sarah Venker (2-0) wraps up the staff with 2.86 ERA in 14.3 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts.
Southeastern Louisiana (12-11,3-0 SLC) opened SLC play with a 3-0 sweep of Lamar and recently fell 12-1 to LSU on Tuesday night. The Lions come in hitting .282 led by Lindsey Rizzo batting .403. Audrey Greely bats .400 with 22 hits and 8 RBI while Aeriyl Mass bats .372 with 11 RBI and two homeruns.
The Lions pitching staff is led by Heather Zumo (7-2) with 2.29 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched on the season. MC Comeaux follows behind with 5.58 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 37.2 innings pitched.
The Huskies will see action next with a trip to Natchitoches, Louisiana, to face off with Northwestern State with a 4 p.m. doubleheader start on Friday, March 26 followed by game three at NOON on Saturday.
