FRISCO, TX – The Southland Conference released its 2021-22 women's basketball preseason poll and preseason all-conference teams this morning.
HBU women's basketball was voted second in the conference by opposing teams head coaches and sports information directors. The team also received one first place vote. HBU finished 11-11 in the COVID shortened 2020-21 season. HBU defeated McNeese in the first round of the Southland Conference tournament before being eliminated by Central Arkansas in the second round. The Huskies are returning all five starters and the majority of their bench core. Southeastern earned the most first place votes (13) and earned top spot on the poll.
HBU junior guard
Timia Jefferson has been named to the 2021-22 Southland first team All-Conference. Jefferson started all 22 games for the Huskies and is coming off of career highs in several categories. She averaged 15 points per game, shot 37 percent from the field, shot 32 percent from the field, and shot 73 percent from the free-throw line. She also accounted for 52 steals and 52 assists. Jefferson led the Huskies in points scored, free throws made, steals, and was second on the team playing in just over 31 minutes per game.
HBU junior guard
Kennedy Wilson was named to the Southland second-team All-Conference. Wilson started all 22 games for the Huskies last season, playing 31 minutes and averaged 10.5 points per game while shooting 38 percent from the field, 37 percent from three and 75 percent at the charity stripe. Wilson led the Huskies with 77 assists while also accounting for 40 steals. She was second on the team in points, free-throws made, steals, and three-pointers made.
The Huskies open their season November 9
th on the road against TCU, before playing their home opener November 14th in Sharp Gym against St. Thomas (TX).
