HOUSTON – The HBU women's soccer team is set to host its lone match of the Fall this Sunday evening, taking on the Texas State Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. at Sorrels Field.

With the Southland Conference postponing conference competitions the Huskies now have just one non-conference game slated and it will be the only home sporting event played on the HBU campus this Fall.

Additionally, the HBU athletic department is currently accepting bottled water donations to transport to the Lake Charles community on Monday, Sept. 7. Fans wishing to donate are encouraged to bring a case of bottled water, or more, with a donation location available at Sorrels Field on Sunday evening.

The Huskies' roster includes senior Avery Cortez who led the team last season with seven goals and four assists for 18 points, ranking in the top-10 in the SLC in both goals and points. Over the last two season, Cortez has tallied 10 goals. In addition to Cortez, three other returners scored at least two goals last season with senior Jessica Nevils adding three while sophomores Xya Balderas and Ryan Ford netted three and two, respectively.

Defensively, senior Megan Rickert returns having started 52 matches in three seasons while junior Bryce Reynolds has been in the starting lineup for all 36 games over the past two seasons. In goal, sophomore Ashtyn Franks and junior Karla Ramirez accounted for all of the minutes at keeper last season. The duo split time with Franks seeing the majority of the minutes, combining to total 89 saves.

Texas State enters the season having lost both of its goalkeepers from last season and top goal-scorer Kaylee Davis who accounted for eight of the team's 19 goals. The Bobcats return just one player who scored more than one goal last year. Last season's Bobcat team was stingy on defense, allowing just 10 goals in 20 matches. TXST is scheduled to play fellow SLC member Stephen F. Austin on Friday evening.

HBU and Texas State faced off last season in San Marcos with the Huskies taking a 1-0 lead on a Balderas goal in the 24th minute but a Bobcat PK in the 36th minute evened things up. TXST then converted another PK in overtime to win.

Attendance Information

As we prepare to host Texas State at Sorrels Field on September 6th, we would like to communicate the plan of action to keep everyone in attendance as safe as well can while following the guidelines the city of Houston, state of Texas and the university has set in place. Due to social distancing, we will only be allowing 80 fans in the stands. This will be monitored by ushers who will be handing out free tickets on a first come first serve basis. We are encouraging the people in the same house hold to sit next to each other and the next family sit with a six foot space between groups. We are requiring everyone wear face masks until they sit in their seats. If you have to get up for any reason, make sure you are wearing your mask and you have your ticket for reentering the stands. We are encouraging people to bring their own lawn chairs if they would like to sit along the sideline behind the marked area while following the same social distancing protocol. A few years ago we started providing our game programs online with QR codes around the complex but we will also be adding a table with hand sanitizer available to our fans to ensure the correct precautions are practiced. If you have any questions, please contact our ticket office by either emailing pwalrath@hbu.edu or calling (281) 649-3143.
