HOUSTON – HBU will travel a few miles north on U.S. 59 to take on Rice in the first football meeting between the two institutions on Sept. 12, 2026, at historic Rice Stadium, officials from both athletic departments announced Wednesday.
The Huskies, a member of the Southland Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), has two Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents scheduled, to date, in 2020 and 2024 and one each in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2026.
Rice, a member of Conference USA in the FBS, is scheduled to open the 2026 season against Army. The Owls have one FCS opponent scheduled each season through 2025, with two matchups against Texas Southern (2021 and 2023), and the rest against Southland programs.
HBU is scheduled to open the 2020 season on the road against North Texas on Sept. 5 at Apogee Stadium in Denton.
