HOUSTON – HBU is heading home after four straight tournaments on the road to open the Southland Conference slate against Nicholls (10-13) in the Huskies first evening doubleheader in school history. The Huskies' (11-8) overall record against Nicholls is 1-13 since 2013. As of late, sophomore
Caitlyn Brockway has a five-game hitting streak, going 6-for-12 with three extra base hits, one of which was her second home run of the season, tying her for the most homeruns all-time in school history. Brockway is leading the team in hitting with a .385 batting average collecting 16 hits, four doubles, two homeruns, with 12 runs batted in and scoring seven times herself. Freshman
Katy Schaefer leads the team in runs batted in with 18 on the year ranking her second in the conference. Schaefer is third on the team in batting average .356 having team high-21 hits on the year with six extra base hits as she ranks second amongst the Huskies with a .542 slugging percentage.
The pitching staff is led by junior Elliot Estes who leads the team in earned run average posting a 1.02 ERA giving up 2 earned runs in 13 innings of work. Freshman pitcher
Lyndie Swanson in 33.2 innings of work has given up eight earned runs posting a 1.66 ERA while striking out 12 batters. Sophomore
Sarah Venker leads the team in strikeouts with 27 while posting 2.23 ERA in 37.2 innings pitched giving up 12 earned runs.
The Nicholls Colonels offense is led by Kennedy Herbert who is batting .394 with 28 hits on the year with four homeruns ranking her second in the conference. Corynn Major is second on the team in average with 28 hits in 76 AB giving her a .368 batting average scoring the most runs for the Colonels, 16. The Colonels pitching staff is led by Jordan Moon who is posting a 2.28 ERA with 55.1 innings pitched giving up 14 earned runs on 26 hits, 11 being extra base hits, and striking out a team high 43 batters.
Husky softball will kick off their 2020 home season under the lights this Friday, marking the first home night double header in HBU Softball history. Game times are schedule for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Huskies are encouraging fans to come out for some free jambalaya and sweet tea, courtesy of Dunn's Catering. HBU athletics will also have some special raffle prizes from sponsors like Whataburger, Houston Federal Credit Union, and Houston Marriott Westchase. Come out early and wear your orange and blue to support those Huskies!
