WBB: Five Huskies score 12+ points in Home Loss to ACU

HOUSTON, Texas – The HBU Huskies fell to the Abilene Christian WIldcats 84-79 in Wednesday night's matchup.

The HBU Huskies held a lead of 19-15 after the first quarter against the Abilene Christian Wildcats with sophomore guard Julija Vujakovic scoring eight points alongside freshman guard Timia Jefferson who scored seven points.
 
The Wildcats went on a 13-5 point run to start off the second quarter giving the Wildcats a 28-22 lead. The Huskies then answered back with a 12-7-point run decreasing the deficit to four points with the help of freshman N'Denasija Collins coming into the game scoring seven points.
 
After close half, the Wildcats lead the Huskies 37-34 as Dominique Golightly scored nine points with 1 block and four assists. Huskies Vujakovic leads the team in scoring with 12 points with one assist and one block. Junior Megan Valdez-Crader and Freshman Abbey Sutherland created five turnovers keeping the Huskies after a strong first half.
 
The Huskies and Wildcats went point for point ending the third quarter 54 all. Going into the fourth quarter Collins and Vujakovic led the team in scoring with 12 points each.
 
The Wildcats outscored the Huskies 30-25 in the fourth quarter ending the rematch 84-79.
 
The Huskies are now stand at 6-18 overall and 2-13 in Southland Conference play. The leading scorer of the game was Huskies N'Denasija Collins who scored 18 points and two steals on the evening. The Huskies had four other players who scored 12 points or more. Valdez-Crader was second in scoring for the Huskies with 15 points on the day while recording five assists, three rebounds and three steals. Freshman Timia Jefferson scored 14 points and gathered three rebounds. Vujakovic scored 12 points while earning five assists and stealing the ball once. Abbey Sutherland recorded a career high 12 points while gathering 2 rebounds and collected three blocked shots on the day. Sophomore Marilyn Nzoiwu led the game with nine rebounds collected while also scoring six points for the Huskies.
 
The Wildcats improved to 19-5 on the year and 11-4 in conference play with the help of six players scoring 11+ points in the rematch Wednesday evening. Conference leading scorer Breanna Wright was tied for the team leading in scoring with teammate Anna McLeod. Wright scored 16 points while recording 4 assists with two rebounds. McLeod recorded 16 points also and recorded two assists with one block and one rebound. Dominique Golightly scored 14 points with a game leading seven assists and recorded three blocks with one steal and five rebounds.
 
The Huskies return to play this Saturday in Huntsville against the Sam Houston State Bearkats at 3:00 p.m.
