MBB: HBU and ACU Run It Back This Wednesday in Sharp

HOUSTON – For the second time in eight days the HBU men's basketball team will square off against Abilene Christian in Southland Conference play when the Huskies host the Wildcats inside Sharp Gym on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Husky fans can watch all the action on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play via HBUHuskies.com.
 
When the two teams met last Wednesday in Abilene, ACU (15-10, 10-4 SLC) came out on top by a score of 81-67. The Huskies (3-20, 3-11 SLC) got 14 points from both Ian DuBose and Benjamin Uloko while Philip McKenzie added 13 and Jalon Gates finished with 12. HBU shot just 37 percent (19-of-52) in that matchup while ACU connected on 50 percent (29-of-58).
 
Wednesday's game will pit the top scoring offense in the SLC in conference play against the number one scoring defense as the Huskies are averaging 82.4 points per game against league foes while ACU is holding conference opponents to 66.1 points per game.
 
Individually in conference play, DuBose leads all SLC players with 20.6 points per game and his 8.1 rebounds per game rank sixth. Uloko, meanwhile, is shooting 60.8 percent (48-of-79) against SLC competition and averaging 9.1 ppg in less than 20 minutes per game.
 
Senior Payten Ricks, the Wildcats' leading scorer on the season, led the way in their last game, a 78-64 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, with 17 points while fellow guard Coryon Mason had 14 and forward Joe Pleasant added 11. Ricks is the team's top three-point threat having attempted 183 threes on the season while just one other player on the roster has attempted more than 50. As a team, the Wildcats are shooting 30.9 percent from deep while holding opponents to just 29.6 percent on threes.
 
HBU heads north this coming Saturday, Feb. 22, for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas at the Johnson Coliseum.
