HUNTSVILLE, Texas– The HBU Huskies head out to Hunstville, Texas to play in a pair of double-headers this Friday and Saturday. The Huskies will go up against Loyola University of Chicago in their first matchup followed with an evening matchup against Providence University to end the first day of the tournament. In the second day, the Huskies have a rematch against Providence followed by a evening game with George Mason University.
The Huskies (4-2) are coming off a midweek loss to UTSA, 6-2. The Huskies are hitting .343 as a team and are led by a trio of freshmen;
Avery Drake,
Shelby Echols, and
Jasie Roberts; who are all hitting .500. Drake is leading the team with nine hits with two doubles on the year while scoring four times and driving in two runs. Echols has seven hits on the year with two doubles as well as leading the team with a 1.143 on base plus slugging percentage. Roberts has recorded seven hits while driving in two runs and scoring five runs herself. The Huskies have four other players all with seven hits on the year. The pitching staff has a combined 1.97 ERA and looks to be a strong part of the Huskies defense to hold off the competition this weekend.
The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (3-2) are hitting .319 as a team having three players with six or more hits on the year. Jessica Shields leads the team in batting with a .556 batting average going 10-18 with no extra base hits but scored a team leading seven runs. Madison Ebeling is second on her team in hitting with .412 batting average while driving in three runs and scoring six times on the year. The biggest run producer for the Ramblers is Allyson Ivey who has recorded a team leading seven runs batting in and scoring three times in 15 at bats while gathering six hits. As a team the Ramblers have stolen 16 bases in 18 total attempts that ranks them seventh in the nation.
For the Providence Friars this is their opening weekend as they are coming off a 30-22 season last year coming in third place in the Big East. Mackenzie Compton is returning for her senior year after appearing in 38 games played hitting .314 ranking her second amongst her teammates. Julia Murpy and Miranda Trinidad return to the circle for the Friars after helping the 2019 staff post a 2.65 ERA.
The George Mason University Patriots (0-5) dropped their first five games in the Stetson Hatter Roundup in DeLand, Florida. Taylor Dadig leads the Patriots with a .364 batting average going 4-11. The Patriots have three players that have driven in three runs a piece out of the 12 runs scored on the year. The pitching staff has posted a 6.58 ERA giving up 31 runs in 32 innings of work.
The Huskies follow the tournament with five games in the Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, Louisiana next weekend.
