WBB: Huskies Earn First Win at Home

Sutherland and Wilson led the Huskies with combined 29 points

HOUSTON – With a 15-point lead in the first half, the Huskies finish with an 86-50 victory after outscoring Arlington Baptist 50-23 in the second half on Saturday afternoon for the first home game of the season at Sharp Gym.  
 
HBU (1-2) was led by sophomore center Abbey Sutherland with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks. Sophomore guard Kennedy Wilson scored a career high 14 points and added three assists and two steals while sophomore guard Timia Jefferson was just behind with 12 points. Making her HBU debut was freshman guard Armani Reed who contributed nine points and seven rebounds. Seven other huskies added points for the team with two more freshmen debuts from forwards Naomi Pierce and Linda BruecknerThe Huskies shot 44.3% from the fieldwent 21-28 in free throws, and out-rebound the Patriots 58-27. 
 
Arlington Baptist was led by Rebecca Farmer with 16 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Paniah Walters added 13 points with Heaven Muenster just behind with nine points and four rebounds. The Patriots went 30.8% from the field, went 15-29 from the line, and only scored nine points from HBU's 23 turnovers. 
 
Huskies finished the first period strong pressuring turnovers and drawing fouls to go 8-10 at the line after a slow start for a 17-12 lead. Maintaining the lead and out-rebounding the Patriots 17-8, HBU lead at the half 36-27. N'Denasija Collins and Reed led the first half with six points and five rebounds each. 
 
Wilson led the third period with a strong 12 points for HBU's highest scoring period and the Huskies closed the game out with a fast break from Anna Maguire and a pair of free throws from Patience Idokooutscoring the Patriots 21-7 to earn their first win of the season. 

Huskies return to Sharp Gym to face McMurry on Saturday, December 12 at NOON.
