LUBBOCK, Texas – With a strong 14-point lead in the first half, Texas Tech extended the lead into the second to pull out a 68-51 win over HBU Saturday afternoon at United Supermarkets Arena.
Sophomore guard Timia Jefferson led HBU (0-2) with 22 points, two steals, and four rebounds. Junior guard Julija Vujakovic had nine points and two steals, with sophomore forward N'Denasija Collins right behind with seven points and eight rebounds. Leading the team in rebounds for the game was junior center Marilyn Nzoiwu, with nine boards and two blocks, while sophomore guard Kennedy Wilson had four points, two steals, and three assists off the bench.
Vivian Gray led Texas Tech (2-0) with 24 points, including 13-of-13 from the free throw line, and added nine rebounds. Alexis Tucker had 12 points and seven rebounds, Lexi Gordon was right behind with nine points and eight rebounds, and Chrislyn Carr posted eight points and 11 rebounds. The Red Raiders forced 19 turnovers, leading to 16 points and scored 14 second-chance points, outrebounding the Huskies 44-34. Dominant at the free throw line, Texas Tech went 23-26, compared to 8-for-10 from HBU, giving the Lady Raiders the edge, although they only shot 35.6 percent from the field.
The Huskies will return for their first home game of the season on Saturday, Dec. 5 to face Arlington Baptist at 12 p.m.
