BEAUMONT, Texas - The HBU women's basketball team took a 26-24 first half lead that could not hold up to the strong 36-point second half by Lamar to take a 60-53 victory over the Huskies in Southland Conference basketball Saturday at the Montagne Center.

Junior guard
Megan Valdez-Crader led the Huskies (4-10, 0-5 SLC) with 16 points, three assists and two steals, while senior guard
Shannon Jones recorded 12 points with six rebounds alongside with six blocks. Senior forward
Lauren Calver led the team with eight rebounds while scoring 10 points.

Sophomore guard Amber Vidal matched Valdez-Crader of the Huskies with 16 points for the Cardinals (8-7, 4-2 SLC) while senior center Briana Laidler led the game with 11 rebounds also posting three assists and three blocks. Sophomore Angel Hastings recorded 14 points while also adding two rebounds and one steal.

HBU held a 39.6%-37.9% shot percentage advantage over Lamar. The Cardinals outrebounded the Huskies 41-36, and HBU turned the ball over 17 times as opposed to Lamar's 12.

The Huskies return home after a bye in the conference this upcoming Wednesday to host a pair of games. HBU first takes on the Sam Houston State Bearkats next Saturday at 2 p.m. followed by the Nicholls Colonels Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
