HOUSTON – UTSA found the net late in the first half and that was all the scoring as the HBU women's soccer team came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision to close out non-conference play on Sunday evening at Sorrels Field.
UTSA (4-2-1) got a dangerous look early on in the 13
th minute but the HBU (1-6-0) back line was there for the team save. Then, in the 20
th and 24
th minutes, a pair of long distance shots by the Roadrunners were easily scooped up by HBU goalkeeper
Ashtyn Franks, keeping the score even at 0-0. The UTSA goal came at the 41:57 mark after a corner kick bounced around inside the box before Kaitlyn Bumgarner found Deja Sandoval with a short pass that Sandoval was able to slot past Franks and send the Roadrunners into the half leading 1-0.
After not registering a shot in the first half, the Huskies got a look with
Noor Abukishk missing just wide left from the top of the 18-yard box in the 50
th minute. UTSA managed a pair of shots on target in the second half, both coming within a span of two minutes around 25 minutes into the half, but
Karla Ramirez made both saves.
Jessica Nevils then had a header attempt in the 74
th minute then went wide left, but HBU wasn't able to put a short on goal.
Franks and Ramirez both finished the night with two saves while the Huskies managed four shot attempts in the game. UTSA attempted 11 shots with six of those on target.
HBU will travel to Abilene, Texas to open the Southland Conference schedule this coming Friday, Sept. 20, at 7:00 p.m. for the team's only game of the weekend.
