Junior 1B Johnny Gonzales doubles, drives in a run for Huskies

HOUSTON - Central Arkansas broke a tie with an unearned run in the fifth and neither team scored again as the Bears claimed a 2-1 victory to clinch the Southland Conference series Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.

Junior first baseman Johnny Gonzales doubled and drove in a run, while junior second baseman Trent Franson singled and scored for the Huskies (13-29, 6-14 SLC). Franson extended his reaching safely streak to 19 games, while junior leftfielder Ryne Edmondson singled to extend his to 22 games.

Senior righthander Brady Batten (2-5) allowed two runs, only one earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 7.2 innings, while senior righthander Daniel Endsley recorded the final four outs.

Nathaniel Sagdahl went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and scored a run, while Joshmar Doran went 1-for-3 and scored the go-ahead run for the Bears (23-20, 13-7).

Noah Cameron (4-1) earned the win, allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts and a walk in eight innings and Gavin Stone worked a perfect ninth, including a strikeout, for his fourth save.

The Huskies took an early lead when Franson singled and scored on Gonzales' double in the bottom of the first, but the Huskies did not threaten again the rest of the way.

The Bears tied the game in the third when Sagdahl doubled, then scored on a single by Jay Anderson.

Doran singled to lead off the fifth, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and took third on a throwing error. Sagdahl delivered a sacrifice fly to left for the difference in the game.

The series concludes with a 2 p.m. start Sunday.
