MBB: HBU Hosts Incarnate Word for Senior Night

HOUSTON – The HBU men's basketball program will honor four seniors prior to the start of Wednesday's Senior Night matchup n Sharp Gym against Incarnate Word at 7:00 p.m. as the Huskies continue their push to clinch a spot in the Southland Conference tournament. The Huskies (11-16, 7-9 SLC) enter Wednesday's game in a three-way tie for sixth place along with Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with Central Arkansas and Northwestern State lurking one game back.
 
The last time the Huskies and Cardinals (6-23, 1-15 SLC) met was in San Antonio on Wednesday, Jan. 30, with HBU winning a high-scoring affair, 96-92. Senior Braxton Bonds was 12-of-15 in that win, finishing with a career-high 27 points. HBU scored 64 of its 96 points inside the paint in the win and held a 36-23 advantage on the boards.
 
In the Huskies' last game they raced out to a 20-2 lead against McNeese and never looked back, winning 86-65. Bonds finished that game with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while Ty Dalton led all players with 20 points. Bonds' three steals in that game moved him into third place on the program's all-time steals list with 176.
 
UIW enters Wednesday's game having dropped 14 consecutive games but in their last outing, the Cardinals fell, 74-72, in an overtime heartbreaker to TAMUCC. Sophomore Christian Peevy led UIW with 17 points in that game as the Cardinals shot 46.9 percent from the floor and over 40 percent from three.
 
The Cardinals have been the top free throw-shooting team in the nation for much of the season, connecting on 81.1 percent from the charity stripe. Peevy is the team's leading scorer, averaging 12.7 points per game on the season while also pulling down a team-best 4.3 rebounds per game. As a team, UIW owns a -3.4 rebounding margin in SLC play compared to the Huskies' +6.4.
 
HBU will hold a special recognition ceremony for seniors Edward Hardt, Braxton Bonds, Josh Ibarra and Stephen O'Suji prior to the start of Wednesday's game.
 
The Huskies will wrap up the 2018-19 regular season on Saturday, Mar. 9, when they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at 5:00 p.m. inside the American Bank Center.
