Junior CF Chase Talbot goes 2-for-4 with a double, run



NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After HBU tied the game in the top of the sixth, Stephen F. Austin answered with three in the bottom half and held on for a 4-2 win in Southland Conference baseball Saturday afternoon at Jaycees Field.

Junior centerfielder Chase Talbot went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run, while senior catcher Erik Voller doubled and drove in a run for the Huskies (5-13, 0-5 SLC).

Senior righthander Brady Batten (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 5.1 innings, while senior Daniel Endsley held SFA scoreless on one hit with a pair of strikeouts and a walk over the final 2.2 innings.

Jake Georgiades went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Manny Vasquez doubled, drove in a run and scored for the Lumberjacks (10-10, 5-0).

Jaxon Covington (3-0) picked up the win, giving up two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 6.2 innings. Jesus Gamez earned his third save, allowing one hit and striking out four over 2.1 ininngs.

Vasquez led off the fifth with a double and scored on Georgiades' RBI single to put SFA ahead, 1-0.

Talbot beat out an infield single with two outs in the top of the sixth, then stole second and scored on a single to left by junior rightfielder Brandon Bena to even the score, 1-1.

Nick Daley was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the sixth, then Brandon Uhse, Sean Moore and Jordan Monacy walked to force in the go-ahead run. Vasquez hit a ground ball up the middle, but an HBU error allowed two more runs to score to extend SFA's lead to 4-1.

Junior shortstop Cal Clark singled to lead off the seventh, then scored on Voller's double down the leftfield line to cut the deficit to 4-2.
