Junior DH Jordan Blackmon reaches safely three times for Huskies



NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 6-0 victory over HBU in the Southland Conference baseball series opener Friday night at Jaycees Field.

Junior designated hitter Jordan Blackmon reached safely three times for the Huskies (5-12, 0-4 SLC), going 1-for-2 and walking twice. Junior second baseman Hayden Baker, junior third baseman Trent Franson and junior rightfielder Brandon Bena had the other hits for HBU.

Senior righthander Zach Carter (1-3) took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in five innings. Senior lefthander Taylor Franzman tossed two scoreless innings and junior rigthander Jacob Coats threw one.

Jordan Monacy went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and scored a run, while Sean Moore went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice for the Lumberjacks (9-10, 4-0). Jared Martin was 2-for-4 and Manny Vasquez doubled, drove in a run and scored.

Alex Palmer shut HBU out on three hits, struck out 10 and walked four in seven innings. Jeremy Rodriguez held the Huskies scoreless over the final two innings.
