NEW ORLEANS, La. – Following a thrilling 88-82 overtime win in the Southland Conference opener, the HBU men's basketball team opens a three-game conference road stretch by visiting New Orleans on Saturday, Jan. 5, afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off at Lakefront Arena. HBU (5-7, 1-0 SLC) led a tightly-contested game in its win over Lamar for 42 of the 45 minutes played and got a career-best 33 points from sophomore
Ian DuBose who also had 10 rebounds for the double-double. Four of the Huskies' five starters scored in double-figures for the game.
Senior
Braxton Bonds leads the Huskies with 45 assists and 20 steals for the season. His five steals against the Cardinals on Wednesday gave him 137 for his career and moved him into ninth on HBU's all-time steals list. He also sits at 306 career assists, just 17 behind Greg Wise for 10
th on that all-time list. Bonds' 2.81 assist-to-turnover ratio this season is second-best in the conference and ranks him 52
nd nationally.
As a team, HBU leads all SLC teams and is 29
th in the nation at 83.3 points per game while New Orleans (5-7, 0-1 SLC) is averaging 71 points per outing. The Privateers are currently fourth in the nation as a team in steals per game, averaging 10.4 per game.
UNO is led by a pair of seniors with guard Ezekiel Charles averaging 10.9 ppg and Scott Plaisance adding 10.1 ppg. Both are also averaging more than 4.5 rebounds per game while freshman Gerrale Gates is the team's top rebounder, pulling down 5.1 rebounds per game while adding 8.3 ppg.
The Huskies will be off next Wednesday before heading to Thibodaux, La. for a Saturday, Jan. 12, afternoon clash with Nicholls and then traveling to Abilene, Texas to face Abilene Christian on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
