LAKE CHARLES, La. – The HBU men's basketball team looks to snap a five-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon when the Huskies visit McNeese at the Cowboys' brand new H&HP Complex. Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and fans can also listen to every second via the Husky Sports Network broadcast with Lonnie King, available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (5-12, 1-5 SLC) have been out-scored by a total of 16 points through six conference games this season. In four of the team's five losses, HBU has either gone to overtime or been within a field goal in the final 40 seconds of the game. In HBU's loss to Southeastern Louisiana, the Huskies had a chance to tie after
Ian DuBose stole an inbounds pass with four seconds on the clock but his quick three-point attempt was off-target and a last-second heave by
Ty Dalton missed, ending the game with the Huskies trailing 70-67.
Senior
Braxton Bonds has turned his defense up a notch since conference play began, recording at least four steals in four of six SLC contests. For the season, he ranks 30
th nationally with 2.24 steals per game and that number jumps to 3.8 spg in conference play, more than 1.5 per game than anyone else In the league.
McNeese (6-13, 2-4 SLC) was off this past Wednesday and in the Cowboys' last game, a home three-point loss to Southeastern, they got a 24-point effort from junior Roydell Brown who connected on 9-of-14 from the floor.
Brown leads the Cowboys with 12.8 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game, nearly averaging a double-double for the season. He is one of four McNeese players averaging double-figures in scoring for the season. McNeese is currently the lone team in the league shooting over 50 percent from the field in SLC play, connecting on 50.9 percent of shots from the floor. Despite their 2-4 SLC record, the Cowboys are even in cumulative scoring through six games.
The Huskies are 6-16 all-time against the Cowboys and dropped both meetings during the 2017-18 season.
HBU remains on the road for its next game following the eastward drive on I-10 to McNeese by heading west on the interstate to San Antonio to take on Incarnate Word on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 7:00 p.m.
