WSOC: Huskies Aim to Remain Unbeaten in SLC on the Road

HBU is a combined 11-1-2 all-time against the weekend’s opponents

THIBODAUX, La. – HBU women's soccer opened the Southland Conference schedule undefeated in three games at home and now hits the road for the first time in conference looking to keep a zero in the loss column with games against Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana on Friday and Sunday.
 
On Friday, Sep. 28, the Huskies (4-5-1, 2-0-1 SLC) face the Colonels (2-7-0, 0-2-0 SLC) at 4:00 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Complex. HBU owns a 5-1-0 record all-time against Nicholls. Then, on Sunday, Sep. 30, HBU heads to Hammond, La. for a matchup with the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions (4-3-2, 1-1-1 SLC) at Strawberry Stadium with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. The Huskies have also enjoyed success against SLU, sporting 6-0-2 record against the Lady Lions.
 
In their first three SLC games, all at home, the Huskies posted a record of 2-0-1 with wins over Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian, picked to finish second and third in the preseason conference poll, and a draw against Sam Houston State. Sophomore Jessica Nevils and freshman Talin Rizo have both tallied two goals in league play to lead the Huskies while senior Sabriah Spencer leads the conference with three assists. Overall this season, Spencer leads the team with seven points thanks to two goals and her three assists. Her two assists in the HBU's win over SFA last Friday moved her into second on the program's all-time list with 16 for her career.
 
Nicholls is in the midst of a three-game losing streak, including its first two conference matches at Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian. Senior Francesca Curteis has scored six of the Colonels' 10 goals this season and her 13 points on the year are tied for third in the league. In goal, Jade Gallaher and Roosa Humerinta have split time with a combined goals against average of 1.65 and a save percentage of .681. Last season, at Sorrels Field, HBU scored four second half goals en route to a 4-0 shutout win.
 
Southeastern Louisiana picked up a 2-1 home win over McNeese to open SLC play and then went 0-1-1 on its ensuing road trip, falling at Abilene Christian before drawing with Incarnate Word. The Lady Lions are 2-1-0 on their home turf this season. SLU has out-scored opponents 21-to-9 for the year and is led by senior Christina Cutura whose 11 points, four goals and three assists all lead the team. Nadine Maher has recorded 46 saves in nine games played with a 1.07 gaa and a save percentage of .852. SLU plays Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday ahead of the game against the Huskies.
 
HBU remains on their for its next match, traveling to Incarnate Word on Friday, Oct. 5, for the first game of a doubleheader with the HBU men's team playing at UIW as well.
