WBB: Vujakovic Earns Silver at FIBA European Small Nations Championships

The future Husky finishes the tournament averaging 52.6 percent from the 3-point line.

HOUSTON – HBU women's basketball incoming freshman Julia Vujakovic received a silver medal, as the Luxembourg national team competed in the FIBA European Small Nations Championships in Ireland.

"Representing my country at this level was so special," Vujakovic said. "Although we couldn't get that gold medal, I'm proud of my teammates."

Vujakovic finished third in the tournament from the 3-point range, shooting an incredible 52.6 percent behind former Colorado State star Gritt Ryder and South Florida's Maria Jespersen.

"Julija just showed me how ready she is for D1 basketball," head coach Donna Finnie said.
"She plays with such maturity and poise. We are pleased she got a European championship medal and excited the next time she will be on court will be in a Huskies jersey."

One of the youngest in the tournament, Vujakovic started all five games as Luxembourg went 4-1. Their only loss was in the final to a very strong Denmark team, which featured eight current and former NCAA Division 1 athletes.
