HOUSTON – The HBU women's basketball program has added Mesa Community College transfer Takara Wade, Huskies head coach
Donna Finnie announced Tuesday.
"Takara is a true point guard who makes everyone around her better," Finnie said. "She has incredible court vision and plays with great balance. She will immediately strengthen us and give us experience at the point."
Wade is a 5-foot-4 guard from Goodyear, Arizona, who played two years at Mesa Community College for head coach Kori Stephenson. As a freshman, she appeared in 34 games with 31 starts averaging 19.6 minutes and 6.3 points, 4.0 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. As a sophomore, she appeared in 33 games with 31 starts averaging 17.1 minutes, 10.1 points, 5.2 boards, 4.5 assists and 1.4 steals a game. She scored in double figures in 22 games, including a 20-point game at Owens Community College. She helped the team to back-to-back Region I - ACCAC Championships and NJCAA DII National Tournament appearances. She earned Academic All-American both years and was selected to the 2017-18 All-Conference first team, All-Region first team and Division ll National All-Tournament Team.
"I'm really looking forward to being a part of the HBU family," said Wade. "I'm excited to grow as a person and player by establishing connections with my new teammates and coaches who showed me the true meaning of Texan hospitality and cordiality."
She was a four-year letterwinner at Desert Vista High School and is the daughter of Todd Wade and Carissa Josefowicz.
