HOUSTON – HBU claimed the matchup of number ones, but Central Arkansas won at the two, three and four spots to hold off the Huskies, 3-2, in the championship bracket of the Southland Showcase Saturday afternoon at Third Coast Volleyball.
The Huskies got on the board first as sophomore
Danielle Wheeler and freshman
Mikayla Vivens rallied past Mac Dear and Shelby Holmes in the five match, 12-21, 21-17, 15-10, but senior
Kali Fluke and freshman
Brennan Miller were outlasted by Delaney Driver and MC Rogers at four, 22-20, 19-21, 15-9. UCA then posted wins at three as Kris Hjembo and Colene Hamilton downed senior
Bailey Banks and freshman
Katya Silveira, 21-15, 21-16, and at two as Megan Nash and Haley Tippett defeated senior
Kayla Armer and sophomore
Tori Hinojosa, 27-25, 25-11. In the number one match, senior
Jessica Wooten and junior
Aeriel Horton cruised past Jessica Martinez and Aly Brinkley, 21-8, 21-9. The Bears took the exhibition match as Stephanie Pollnow and Kimberly Schnars fought off freshmen
Jordyn Miller and
Meagan Carter, 18-21, 21-18, 16-14.
The Huskies will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the loser's bracket of the double elimination format Sunday at 9 a.m.
