HOUSTON – HBU softball takes game three against Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 2-0, Saturday morning at Husky Field.
The Huskies (8-29, 5-16 SLC) were led by junior designated hitter
Ashley Herrera went 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI. Senior left fielder
Nicole Shedd and junior shortstop
Demi Janak also registered doubles, while sophomore second baseman
Amber Lotz and sophomore right fielder
Sierra Humphrey singled and scored.
Freshman
Jessica Patak earned the win holding the Islanders (12-33-1, 3-18 SLC) to no runs on three hits and three strikeouts.
Centerfielder Kayla Sheridan had a stolen base and went 1-for-3. Designated hitter Kandace Johnson and second baseman Kaylon Dunn each recorded singles.
Ashley Smith (3-19) got the loss allowing two runs on six hits, one error and two strikeouts in five innings.
The Huskies struck in the fourth inning, when
Amber Lotz led off with a single up the middle. Janak put down a bunt to advance her. Lotz then advanced to third on a passed ball, before Shedd hit a two-out double to right field, 1-0.
In the fifth inning, Humphrey singled up the middle with one out. Herrera immediately followed with a shot to right center giving the Huskies a two-run advantage.
The Huskies travel to Northwestern State Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 for a three-game series in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
