HOUSTON – Third-seeded HBU started the day with a sweep of No. 2 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, then swept fourth-seeded New Orleans in the evening on the first day of the Southland Showcase Friday at Third Coast Volleyball.

Meagan Carter claimed the exhibition match over Gabby Johnston and Olivia Rook, 21-5, 18-21, 15-13.
Against New Orleans, Wooten and Horton defeated Veronica Corcoran and Rachel Kuhn, 21-19, 21-17, but Armer and Hinojosa outlasted Victoria Corcoran and Cara Sander at two, 21-16, 20-22, 15-10. Banks and Silveira downed Kaitlyn Grice and Jordan Schumacher at three, 21-15, 21-14, while Fluke and
Brennan Miller had to come from behind again for an 18-21, 21-13, 15-13 win over Blessing Dunn and Brianna Vega at four. Wheeler and Vivens scored a 21-16, 21-18 win over Maxine Walsh and Ally Carr at five and
Jordyn Miller and Carter pulled out a 17-21, 21-18, 15-12 decision in the exhibition match.
In the first match of the morning, UNO swept No. 5 seed Abilene Christian, 5-0, then UNO upended top seed Central Arkansas, 3-2. TAMU-CC swept ACU, 5-0, then edged UCA, 3-2.
The tournament continues with the championship bracket play beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.
