HOUSTON – HBU softball drops a pair of 2-1 decisions to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Southland Conference action Friday at Husky Field.
Game One, 2-1
Senior third baseman
Kassie James led the Huskies (7-29, 4-16 SLC) at the plate, as she went 2-for-3. Sophomore second baseman

Demi Janak and sophomore catcher
Heidi Jaquez each recorded hits. Freshman right fielder
Sierra Humphrey scored.
Freshman
Jessica Patak tossed the complete game and recorded the loss allowing two runs on five hits, two errors and one walk.
Right fielder Taelor Thomas drove in two off of a double, while Kaylon Dunn singled and scored for the Islanders (12-32-1, 3-17 SLC).
Ashley Smith (3-18) earned the win holding the Huskies to two runs on five hits, an error, a walk and a strikeout.
The Huskies struck early, when Jaquez led the first off with a hit by pitch. Humphrey reached on a fielder's choice, but the Islanders gunned down Jaquez at second. Back-to-back singles by James and Janak sent Humphrey to third. Senior left fielder
Nicole Shedd followed with a fly ball out to right field and sent Humphrey to home, 1-0.
Down to their final out in the seventh inning, Dunn extended the inning with a single to left field. Patak walked third baseman Whitney Wendel. With two outs and the winning run on first, Thomas doubled to right center scoring both runners, 2-1.
Game Two, 2-1
James extended her hitting streak to seven games, as she singled twice. Jaquez went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while senior center fielder
Kay Schroeder walked and scored.
Freshman
Elliott Estes (2-8) received the loss in the circle allowing two runs on eight hits and two strikeouts.
The Islanders were led by Dunn, who went 2-for-3 and scored. Left fielder Keagan Helson singled and scored and Wendal drove a run off a double.
Winning pitcher Alexis Tovar (2-7) only allowed one run on eight hits, one walk and six strikeouts.
TAMU-CC struck in the second inning Dunn singled to center, but a fielder error by Schroeder sent her all the way to third. Wendel doubled to right center sending Dunn to home. The Islanders added a run again in the third on one hit and no errors.
Schroeder led off the third with a walk and Humphrey put a bunt down to push Schroeder to second and then advanced to third on a passed ball. With two outs, Jaquez hit a single up the middle to put the Huskies on the board, 2-1.
The series finale is set for a 10 a.m. start Saturday, April 21 at Husky Field.
