SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior short stop
Demi Janak drove in all three of the runs for HBU softball in the loss to Texas State Wednesday night at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
Janak went 2-for-3, driving in two off of a homerun, while freshman right fielder
Sierra Humphrey singled, walked and scored twice for the Huskies (2-8).
Freshman
Jessica Patak had four runs scored off of five hits, four walks and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
Christina McDowell led the Bobcats (15-7) at the plate going 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Ariel Ortiz scored two with a homerun.
Krista Jacobs (4-1) earned the win only allowing one run off one hit, one strikeout and one walk in 3.2 innings.
The Bobcats struck early in the bottom of the first, as lead-off batter Brianna Sannem walked, but got caught stealing by
Heidi Jaquez for the first out. The next better later hit a triple and then scored, after Ortiz homered over left, 2-0.
In the top of the fourth, Krista Jacobs walked
Sierra Humphrey, who advanced off of a ground ball to shortstop by
Kassie James. With two outs,
Nicole Shedd reached on an error by third baseman Bailee Carter that moved Humphrey to third. Janak followed with a single to right, pushing Humphrey across, 2-1.
Texas State added three runs in the fifth, after Carter and pinch hitter ArieAnn Bell walked and Haleigh Davis singled to load the bases. A sacrifice fly to center field brought in Carter and a single to right field by McDowell tacked on another two runs, 5-1.
The Huskies responded in the sixth, when Humphrey singled down the left field line, but was on the verge of being stranded as Fryar retired the next two. With one on and two outs, Janak drove one over the left field fence, 5-3.
