SB: HBU Can’t Stop Lamar Offense

Heidi Jaquez homers for the second time of the series.

HOUSTON – HBU softball drops game three of the series against Southland Conference opponent Lamar, 8-2, Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.

Senior Kassie James went singled twice up the middle and to left field for the Huskies (3-15, 0-6 SLC). Sophomore Heidi Jaquez drove in two off of her second home run of the series and third this season.
Freshman Jessica Patak (1-10, 0-2 SLC) got the loss, allowing eight runs to score off 10 hits, eight errors and three walks in 6.1 innings.

Kelly Meeuwsen went 3-for-4 with two homeruns, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored. Kendall Talley went 2-for-4 and scored, while Kimberly Mattox drove in three off of a triple.
Taylor Gruell earned the win for the Cardinals (15-12, 3-3 SLC) only allowing two runs off four hits, one error, one walk and one strikeout in four innings. Relief pitcher Laura Napoli pitched to nine batters in the final three innings, allowing no hits and no runs.

Lamar struck first in the second, after lead-off hitter Meeuwsen hit a double, T. Davis walked and Talley put a bunt down to load the bases. M. Myers hit a sacrifice fly out to left field to push across Meeuwsen, 1-0.

In the third inning, S. Klaus singled to right and stole second to get into scoring position with only one out. Meeuwson struck again this time with a homerun to right field, 3-0.

The Huskies answered back in the bottom of third, when Kay Schroeder reached first thanks to a pass ball on a strikeout. Jaquez came up and homered to put HBU on the board, 3-2.

HBU couldn't stop the Lamar offense, as the Cardinals scored three in the sixth innings and two more in the seventh inning. The Huskies couldn't respond, 8-2.

The Huskies host Dartmouth Wednesday, March 21 at 3 p.m., before they travel for two three-game series on the road first at Abilene Christian and then at UIW.
