MBB: Central Arkansas Pulls Away from Huskies

Ian DuBose grabbed a career-high 5 steals and led HBU with 20 points

HOUSTON – Four Huskies scored in double-digits but HBU men's basketball fell to Central Arkansas in Southland play on Wednesday evening inside Sharp Gym by a score of 100-80.
 
An Ian DuBose layup less than three minutes into the game put HBU (5-20, 1-10 SLC) ahead 6-3, giving the Huskies what would be their largest lead of the game. After a three by Jalon Gates put HBU ahead 9-7, Central Arkansas (13-12, 7-5 SLC) went on a 13-3 run capped by a jumper by Matthew Mondesir to lead 20-12 with 10:40 to go in the half. Will Gates Jr. nailed a trey with 5:34 on the clock to cut the Huskies' deficit to three but UCA closed the half by out-scoring HBU 18-9 and took a 47-35 lead into the half.
 
David Caraher got the difference back down to six, 56-50, with 14:33 on the clock but the Bears scored the next seven to lead by 13. Close to halfway through the second half, Braxton Bonds brought the Huskies deficit back under 10 but the Bears scored the next two baskets and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
 
DuBose led HBU with 20 points and set a new career-best with five steals. The freshman was 8-of-15 from the floor and added three rebounds. Jalon Gates ended the night with 17 points while Caraher added 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Bonds finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
 
Jordan Howard led Central Arkansas with 35 points while Hayden Koval posted a triple-double of 17 points, 11 blocked shots and 10 rebounds.
 
HBU forced UCA into 16 turnovers while committing just seven. The battle for the boards went to the Bears who held a 44-31 advantage in rebounds.
 
The Huskies will travel to Thibodaux, La. to take on conference leader Nicholls this Saturday, Feb. 10, inside Stopher Gymnasium at 3:00 p.m.
