NATCHITOCHES, La. – HBU men's basketball will look to make it three wins in a row over Northwestern State on the Demons' home floor when the two teams face off inside Prather Coliseum on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Husky fans can listen to the Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King providing play-by-play commentary, available at HBUHuskies.com.
The last two meetings between the two programs have both been in Natchitoches and HBU (5-20, 1-11 SLC) has won them both by a combined 43 points. The all-time series stands even at 15-15.
The Huskies'
David Caraher and
Ian DuBose remain the lone two freshman in the Southland Conference in the top-30 in scoring for the season with Caraher averaging 15.7 per game and DuBose at 13.1 ppg. Additionally, the Caraher-Dubose duo are the top freshmen on the boards, with Caraher 6.7 rpg to DuBose's 5.7 rpg, with only Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Sean Rhea joining them as the three freshmen in the top-20 in rebounding in the SLC.
Sophomore
Jalon Gates, who is averaging 2.9 three-pointers per game in conference play for the third-most in the league, has made 62 threes for the season, just two shy of entering the top-15 in program history for made threes in a single season.
As a team, HBU has continued to be strong on the boards despite the loss of center
Josh Ibarra who averaged 10 rebounds per game in the nine games he appeared in this season. The Huskies are out-rebounding opponents by nearly two per game and remain the number one offensive rebounding team in the country.
Northwestern State (3-21, 0-13 SLC) is led by junior forward Ishmael Lane who is averaging 13.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per outing. Iziahiah Sweeney, a senior guard, is the only Demon on the current roster averaging double-digits with 11.4 ppg. As a team, NSU is being out-scored by 15.5 points per game this season and the Demons are shooting just 26.9 percent from three-point range.
The Huskies return home to Sharp Gym for a pair of games beginning Saturday, Feb. 17, evening when Sam Houston State visits for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
