HOUSTON – This Wednesday evening the HBU men's basketball team will square off against visiting Incarnate Word in a Southland Conference matchup inside Sharp Gym with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. Lonnie King will provide play-by-play commentary on the Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast, available at HBUHuskies.com.

Both teams come into Wednesday's game looking for their first SLC win of the season. HBU (4-16, 0-7 SLC) dropped a tight contest at home to McNeese this past Wednesday, Jan. 20, by an 86-81 margin while Incarnate Word (5-12, 0-7 SLC) lost, 74-70, on the road at New Orleans.

The Huskies have been without senior center Josh Ibarra for a month and a half and are being led in scoring by a trio of underclassmen with junior point guard Braxton Bonds surpassing 100 assists on the year in the last game. Freshman David Caraher is averaging 15.4 ppg (19.6 ppg in SLC) while fellow frosh Ian DuBose is scoring 12.8 ppg (14.3 ppg in SLC) while sophomore Jalon Gates is adding 11.4 ppg (13.0 ppg in SLC). Bonds, meanwhile, is averaging 8.9 ppg, 5.1 apg, 4.7 rpg and 1.9 spg.

Caraher enjoyed the second 30-point night of his career on Wednesday, matching his career-high with 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting, 5-of-9 from three, while adding 12 rebounds for his third career double-double. Gates chipped in with a career-best 26 points for the Huskies, knocking down 5-of-15 from deep and 9-of-19 from the field.

The Cardinals have been playing without starting point guard and preseason first team All-SLC selection Jalin Hart over the last five games and are led by junior forward Charles Brown III who is scoring 13.3 ppg for the year and 15.4 in SLC play. Redshirt freshman forward Christian Peevy is averaging 10.4 ppg for the year while junior Simi Socks is adding 10.3. Since SLC play began, however, Socks is scoring just 2.5 ppg while freshman guard Keaton Hervey has stepped up to score 10 per game. UIW is being outscored by 16 points per game in conference play.

Following Wednesday's game, HBU will be on the road for a pair beginning this Saturday, Jan. 27, with a trip to Corpus Christi to take on the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7:30 p.m. The Huskies will then visit Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, Jan. 31, in Nacogdoches.
