HOUSTON – On Saturday evening the HBU men's basketball team will look to win its fifth-straight game against the McNeese Cowboys inside Sharp Gym with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. Lonnie King will provide play-by-play commentary on the Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast, available at HBUHuskies.com.

The Huskies (4-15, 0-6 SLC) are aiming to break an eight-game losing skid against a McNeese (6-10, 3-3 SLC) program they haven't lost to since the 2013-14 season. HBU is 4-3 inside Sharp Gym this season.

HBU has relied heavily on underclassmen this year, particularly freshmen David Caraher and Ian DuBose who are averaging 14.6 points and 13.2 points per game, respectively while each contributing more than five rebounds per outing. Collectively, the Huskies' freshmen and sophomores have accounted for 60 percent of the team's scoring with that rising to 71 percent in Southland play. Four freshmen, Caraher, DuBose, Oliver Lynch-Daniels and Philip McKenzie are accounting for 55 percent of the team's points against SLC opponents.

Junior point guard Braxton Bonds has enjoyed a solid stretch over the last three games, averaging 14.3 points, 6.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds in that span. Sophomore Jalon Gates has already nearly doubled his point total of 113 from his freshman campaign, standing at 202 points scored through 19 games for a 10.6 ppg average.

The Cowboys are led by sophomore Kalob Ledoux who is averaging 13.5 ppg for the season and 17.2 in conference play. Junior college transfer Quatarrius Wilson leads the Southland in rebounding at 9.4 rebounds per game while adding 10.1 ppg. Jarren Greenwood and James Harvey, both juniors, are also both averaging double-digits scoring for the season.

As a team, McNeese is averaging 73.9 points per game and has picked up SLC wins over Incarnate Word, Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana.

The Huskies are 6-14 all-time against McNeese and have won the last four meetings, dating back to the 2014-15 season. Last year, HBU downed the Cowboys 60-49 in Sharp Gym and erased a 20-point second half deficit in Lake Charles in an 81-79 win.

The next game for the Huskies will also be at home on Wednesday, Jan. 24, when they host Incarnate Word at 7:00 p.m.
