Huskies shut out for first time this season.



NACOGDOCHES, Texas – HBU could only muster two hits, while Stephen F. Austin scored all of its runs with clutch, two-out hitting as the Lumberjacks shut out the Huskies, 4-0, in the Southland Conference series opener Thursday night at Jaycees Field.
 
Junior shortstop Tyler Depreta-Johnson and senior designated hitter Joe Van Marter each had singles for HBU (26-21, 18-10 SLC).
 
Senior righthander Addison Russ (2-5) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 7.2 innings.
 
Conner Fikes went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for SFA (27-26, 15-13), while Eric DeJesus doubled and scored twice.
 
Tony Grabowske (5-3) held HBU scoreless on one hit with a strikeout and three walks in 6.0 innings. Will Vest tossed two innings and Tyler Starks pitched one.
 
Fikes gave the Lumberjacks the lead with a two-run double in the bottom of the third then added an RBI single in the eighth. Zac Michener also had an RBI single in the eighth.
 
The regular season concludes with a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m. The Huskies cannot win a share of the Southland Conference regular-season title, but still have an opportunity to clinch the No. 2 seed at the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament next week at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.
