WBB: Precious Ivy Joins Huskies as Assistant Coach

Former Tyler JC assistant named to HBU staff.

HOUSTON – The HBU women's basketball program has added Precious Ivy as an assistant coach and will assume her role on June 1, head coach Donna Finnie announced Thursday.

"As soon as I knew we had this position open, I called Trenia Tillis, the head coach at Tyler, to inquire about Precious," Finnie said. "I have been very impressed with her tireless work ethic in recruiting and her connections across the state. Everybody you meet has a good word to say about her. In talking with her, it was evident she will fit well with our program and she will bring a new dimension to our recruiting efforts, which will help us continue to bring in strong student-athletes to HBU. We are all excited about her joining our staff and feel she will be a tremendous role model for our players."

"I am so excited to be joining this amazing staff, who are continuing to strengthen this young program," Ivy said. "I am blessed beyond measure to be given this opportunity by Coach Donna to coach at the Division I level. After being at the junior college level for so many years, I am ready to use my passion for the game and recruiting connections to help this program grow. I understand this is bigger than basketball and I want to ensure I support the staff in mentoring and guiding these young ladies on and off the floor. I am truly excited to be part of the Huskies family and can't wait to be out in orange and blue recruiting this summer."

Ivy comes to HBU from Tyler Junior College, where she spent five years as an assistant coach and was in charge of recruiting, scouting, strength training, player skill development, academics and the redshirt program. She coached three All-American, multiple all-conference and all-region players and helped the Apaches reach three NJCAA National Tournaments.

The Cedar Hill, Texas, native played two seasons at San Jacinto College, earning all-conference honorable mention in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Back injuries cut her career short, jumpstarting her foray into coaching, serving as a volunteer student assistant at San Jac. She then spent one season at Wayland Baptist as a graduate assistant, serving as the head coach of the junior varsity program, as well as overseeing player development and academics.

Ivy earned a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology fitness and sports from the University of Houston in 2008 and earned a Master of arts in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University-Irvine.
